Since 1982, an Italian story of design and manufacturing

Brianform was born in Brianza, the district that taught Italy how to build furniture, and has done one thing ever since: sofas and armchairs, designed and built entirely in house. Between Cantù and Meda, within a few square kilometres, the twentieth century shaped the craft that gave Italian furniture its form: cabinetmakers, cutters, upholsterers, and an attention to detail that cannot be learned anywhere else.

Out of that tradition grew an industrial structure that keeps the whole cycle inside — joinery, leather cutting, upholstery, inspection — and that buys its materials straight from the producer, with no intermediaries. It is the reason a wholly Italian product can still compete.

This page gathers twenty-three films shot between 2011 and 2019 by trade magazines, international fairs, designers and dealers. We did not produce them: they are the way others, over the years, have told the story of this company.

2011 — 2012

The test bench of the Salone

For a company from this district the Salone del Mobile is not a showcase: it is the annual examination, where the product is judged by buyers and designers from all over the world in the space of six days. The oldest films in the archive come from there and from Abitare il Tempo. They show a repertoire that is still classical — generous proportions, deep leathers — and the quality of finish that at a fair is read from a metre away.

2015

The range takes shape

In 2015 the collections were presented with films of their own, and the separation between classical and contemporary became a declared choice: one line of traditional construction and one of contemporary language, carried forward in parallel. This was not a catalogue exercise but a design one — two distinct lines of research, each with its own drawing and its own materials. It is the architecture of the range the company still works with today, with two new collections every year.

The making

The work, not the finished piece

A few films show what usually stays off camera: the solid timber frame, the interwoven webbing, leather cut by hand alongside electronic cutting, padding in differentiated densities. It is the part that does not photograph well and that decides everything else. Beside them remain the footage of the Cogliate store, in Brianza, now closed, and the visit of a group of international designers: by the mid-2010s the interlocutor was changing, from the shop to the studio.

2018 — 2019

Made in Italy away from home

Shanghai in September 2018 with Coronari Italia, the Milan Salone del Mobile in 2019 in Hall 1. In between, the dealers filming themselves: a distributor in the United States, a Vietnamese showroom presenting the sofas in its own language. These are the films the company neither shot nor paid for, and that is exactly why they count: an Italian product that someone, on the other side of the world, chose to show as their own.

Today

What has stayed, and what has changed

The cycle stays in house

Joinery, cutting, upholstery and inspection are still all done in house, on every material we work: wood, marble, iron, upholstery. It is the condition for prototyping properly, rather than approximately.

The chain has grown shorter

Materials are bought straight from the producer, with no importers or distributors. The advantage does not stay with the company: it is passed on to the price of a wholly Italian product.

Contract has become a division

Hospitality, residential, student housing, corporate and marine, with Class 1 IM fire-retardant upholstery and every certification required by law. From the single shops of those years to today's sites, all over the world.

The rest of the story is in the collections and in the contract division: the collections · contract · the company
